AgendaTop

Day One
Solar Energy – the Growing Business in Fast-Developing Asia Market

The opening session will provide an update on trends in the global solar industry. What opportunities and challenges are there throughout the region? What role does solar energy play in electricity generation and what is its potential?  What are the drivers for market acceleration in the solar energy industry?

  • Global renewable energy updates and developments in Asia
  • The growing share of solar energy in the energy supply chain
  • Japan’s role as a market leader
  • Southeast Asia’s position as a fast developing market for solar power
  • China and North Asia’s potential
  • Pacific countries’ solar energy projects

Renewable energy development needs strong support from both international and local governments. Asia with its fragmented markets, shows the need for a strong policy framework to create a stable environment for successful market developments. What are the current policies and regulations? How can better collaborations between public and private sectors be built?

  • Current regulations and policies
  • Solar power standards setting
  • Institutional collaboration and governments' role, investment subsidies & incentives

Financial incentives such as preferential feed-in tariffs for solar-generated electricity and net metering have supported solar PV installations in many countries including Germany, Japan, and the United States.

  • What is the current situation across Asia?
  • Are there valuable lessons to learn from Germany, Japan and the USA?
  • How can Asia establish effective and realistic solar promotion strategies?

Solar power generation markets are most developed in USA, Japan, Germany and Spain. Some creative solar plants have been installed in Asia and many more projects are being implemented. The future of Asian solar power generation is looking very bright. This session will look at the latest developments in solar power generation and successful case studies.

  • Concentrated solar power
  • On/Off grid solar energy use
  • Hybrid systems
  • Standalone systems
  • Connection to a DC grid
  • Advanced storage batteries
  • New system and inverter innovations

In addition to power generation, solar thermal energy is used for cooling & heating and industrial process. This session will bring you some best practices of solar energy utilization around Asia and globally.

  • Space heating and cooling in active and passive solar buildings
  • Rural electrification, rural use, solar cooking
  • Innovation in BIPV and building designs
  • Large scale solar building projects
  • New solar thermal technologies
  • New technologies in solar process heating and cooling
  • Advanced solar heating systems

Day Two
Investing in Projects & Innovative Technologies

This session will address the financing and investment trends in solar energy projects. What are the financing challenges, risks and costs associated with solar energy projects? How can companies profit from CDM and JI projects on an international basis?

  • Investing in renewable energy
  • Trends and developments in solar energy investment
  • Global investment opportunities in solar energy
  • Meeting the criteria for financing solar projects in Asia
  • Key issues for funders of PV projects
  • How can companies benefit form carbon finance and CDM

The panel discussion will analyse the key criteria for investing and financing solar projects.

  • How can project owners successfully obtain bank loans or finance projects?
  • Forthcoming investment opportunities in the Asia Pacific region
  • How far are we from achieving grid parity?

Japan is one of the leading PVs suppliers in the world and China is catching up fast. Although China has a huge potential market for solar energy projects, it is still at the stage of supplying PV to other countries. This workshop will offer on hand skills and useful information for investors.

As demand for photovoltaic (PV) panels increases and manufacturers step up production, the market is seeing a decrease in pricing. New cutting edge technologies are being developed to improve efficiency. This session will address the latest technological advances in PV.

  • New PV crystalline cell technologies
  • New PV thin-film cell technologies
  • Emerging wafer PV cell technologies
  • Concentrated PV technologies
  • Panel Discussion – Defining wants & needs

The closing session will hear the views of leading PV and silicon manufacturers and producers. Under the background of continuous growth of the solar market in Asia, how can manufacturers and producers better meet the demand?

  • Capital equipment manufacturing in Asia
  • Polycrystalline & monocrystalline silicon and solar cells
  • Amorphous solar silicon and cells
  • Hybrid silicon (HIT) solar cells
  • High efficiency solar cells
  • Concentrated PV cells
  • Innovative solar battery technologies
